Returning Shadow was an incredible and emotional ending to The Guidal series. I was completely hooked by all of the reveals and unexpected turns, and there were so many moments I genuinely did not see coming. After spending four books with these characters and this world, the ending absolutely broke my heart, but it made this a series I know will stay on my mind for a long time.
The entire series has been such an emotional rollercoaster, and I loved watching the characters, relationships, and mysteries develop from book to book. This was an amazing conclusion to a story and cast I’ve grown so attached to.
Things to know: There is some strong language and a few sensual/romantic scenes, but they aren’t very descriptive and fade to black.
I absolutely recommend The Guidal series to anyone looking for an addictive dystopian fantasy filled with mystery, magic, friendships, unexpected reveals, and characters you’ll become deeply attached to.
Being an arc reader for this book has been an absolute privilege.
Roxy's ability to entwine deep foreshadowing with a plot that eventually detonates is one of her greatest strengths.
It's a story that rewards the forensic reader; every name and every lineage carries weight you won't see coming.
The last chapters will have you sitting on the edge of your seat you will not be able to put the book down.

From chapter 1 right the way through to chapter 66 Aurora has to relearn her place in the world. Loses friendships, gains family, and is tested time and time again will she pull through who knows.
I finished this at 04:53 with my brain vibrating and a heat-sick feeling in my gut. It’s that kind of book. I have got pages of notes and a ledger just to keep up with the genius of these lineages. If you think you know where this is going, you’re wrong. There were moments where I literally had to put the book down and just stare at the wall because what Roxy did with Jennson is just mad. Don’t get comfortable. Just when you think you’ve found a sanctuary, Roxy pulls the rug out and sets the floor on fire.
This is the book where everything finally comes together. All the little clues, mysteries and puzzle pieces from the previous books start falling into place, and suddenly so many things make sense. The amount of discoveries and revelations in this book was incredible. I absolutely loved getting those “OH… THAT’S WHY!” moments.
And emotionally… this book had me feeling EVERYTHING.
The pain. The heartache. The suspense. The love. The hope. The loss.
I was invested in these characters and their journey by this point, so seeing everything come together after four books was such an emotional experience. There were moments where my heart was breaking, and moments that just made me smile.
BUT that ending…
It broke my heart and, somehow, was beautiful at the same time. I finished the book with that very specific feeling of being emotionally wrecked but also satisfied with the journey I had just been on.
Looking back at the whole series, I love how many of the things that seemed random or unexplained earlier on eventually found their place in the bigger picture. It made me appreciate the story even more.
What an incredible way to bring Aurora's story to an end.
I whave every single one of these books! I first started reading them on my laptop, and at the beginning, I honestly thought I’d prefer something different I really wasn’t sure if it would be my cup of tea at all. But the deeper I got into the story, the more my mind completely changed. I went from ‘wait, what?’ to ‘oh wow, no way and before I knew it, I was totally in love with them.
I found Roxy originally when I was searching for ARC readers —I clicked on her profile scrolled past and then she popped up right on my For You Page What made me want to read her books most was seeing how excited she gets watching her jump around with pure joy made me feel excited too and I just knew I had to give them a go I’m so so glad I did If I’d missed that chance and never picked them up I’d have been absolutely gutted I really hope I’ve become good friends with Roxy along the way too. She has spoiled me so much, more than I could ever say. so I just want to say a massive, heartfelt thank you for everything.

Reviews aren’t my strong suit.. I struggle to find the words to explain how books made me feel and this is no different in that sense. The journey of disliking characters to absolutely loving them, being unable to choose which team to be on, the utterly heartbreaking moments, the moments you never see coming and the second to last chapter which had me thinking I was going to hate the ending but got tied up and brought me back around with the last chapter, what a book it was.
This series took over my book life a couple years ago and I had been so lucky and grateful to review them as ARC’s.

This series had had me in a chokehold from the start...
I had high hopes for Aurora keeping her hands to herself in this book, but as always she went a head and surprised me.
This book took a turn and then another turn and then yet again another turn the entire book, everytime I thought id figured it out Roxy went ahead and surprised me🫣
I absolutely loved Roxys writing style, the chapters lengths, the character depth.
This whole world has taken me on such a journey i never wanted to end. It had me in a chokehold from start to finish, I couldn't get enough of it.

Let me start off by saying this book is brilliant!! I couldn’t put it down and I can’t wait to start reading more of Aurora’s story. The characters were impactful, genuine, and relatable. This book captured me and pulled me in from the first chapter all the way through to the end. The author came on my fyp as an arc and I responded and so glad that I did! I will definitely be following her and reading more of her books.
Having read the entire series, I loved seeing the story continue to unfold, it was so addictive. A brilliant read.
